FISTS Down Under - Letter Chase

For monthly "Letter Chase" words, click HERE

The Letter Chase is modeled on the North American QRP CW Club (NAQCC) "Challenge". The President of NAQCC Paul Huff N8XMS was contacted and he has very kindly given FISTS Down Under Inc. permission to use their model here.

FISTS Down Under Inc. – Letter Chase
Each month we will be offering a “Letter Chase” for members to try to complete. Non-members and short wave listeners are welcome to participate in the “Letter Chase” as well. Besides providing a fun activity to participate in, it is our goal to use the “Letter Chase” as a way to promote CW and QRP activity across the ham bands.

Letter Chase
What is it?
Each month will have a different set of words to make up the “Letter Chase”. These will be advised in the Club newsletter, on the FISTS Down Under Inc. Face Book page and also on the Clubs’ website.
eg.
MORSE
KEY
ABLE
FISTS

The goal of the “Letter Chase” is to spell out a specified list of words using the letters (and sometimes numbers) that are in the callsigns of the stations that you work.
For example:

WORD - VK2CCW, VK4OC, VK5RZ, VK3DCP
NEXT – VK2EBN, VK3EO, VK6GX,  VK5ATU

General Rules:

The following rules apply to the “Letter Chase”:

1. All “Letter Chase” QSOs must be 2X CW and you can use whatever power levels you are licenced for however,  running at QRP power is encouraged. The stations that you work can be using any power level.

2. Any and all bands ( within your licence restrictions ) may be used for the “Letter Chase”.

3. No Contest or Net QSOs may be used by either operator. If either station is working in a Contest or a Net those contacts cannot be used in the “Letter Chase”.

4. The “Letter Chase” is a month-long event and QSOs from any time during the month (UTC) may be used for completing the “Letter Chase”.

5. The goal of the “Letter Chase” is to spell out a specified list of words using the letters (and sometimes numbers) that are in the callsigns of the stations that you work. The following rules apply:

a.       Each letter in the callsign may be used twice but you may not work the same station a 2nd time in the month to "harvest" additional letters from the call.

b.      Sometimes “Letter Chase” phrases are more than one word long. When this happens ignore the spaces between words. For example, if the “Letter Chase” phrase is "MORSE CODE" you need to submit calls to make "MORSECODE" as if it were a single word.

c.       When you email your “Letter Chase” submission be sure to send it as an Excel file ( see sample log below ) with each “Letter Chase”  word on a separate line and with the calls making that word typed horizontally in that same line. For example:

WORD - VK2CCW, VK4OC, VK5RZ, VK3DCP
NEXT – VK2EBN, VK3EO, VK6GX,  VK5ATU
