Guidelines for use of VK2FDU

There are a few simple guidelines to follow when using the club's callsign VK2FDU, they are:

1.  When calling CQ the protocol  is: CQ CQ CQ FISTS de VK2FDU/P VK2FDU/P VK2FDU/P K or alternatively CQ CQ DE VK2FDU/P VK2FDU/P FISTS CLUB STN CQ CQ K

2.  Of course don't be shy in going back to another station who is calling CQ, just use VK2FDU/P.

3.  During the QSO try and mention that VK2FDU is the callsign of FISTS Down Under and VK2FDU's FISTS number is #9610.

4.  The Fists Down Under calling frequencies are: 1.808, 3.528, 7.028, 11.118, 14.058, 18.085, 21.058, 24.908 & 28.058. These are only suggested frequencies and you may wish to use others.

5. MOST IMPORTANT: VK2FDU is NOT to be used during the following times:

       Tuesday 0930UTC to 1100UTC

This time is reserved for the FISTS CW Net

       Wednesday 0930 to 1100UTC

This time is reserved for the QRS Slow Morse Net

6.  Lastly, please forward your completed log to:  vk2fdu.auz@gmail.com

     The log format is:

Date, Callsign, Name, FISTS#, Start (UTC), END (UTC), RST(S), RST(R), Freq, Operator, FISTS#

A sample Excel spreadsheet of the VK2FDU Sample Log has been provided and can be downloaded here.

Send your paper VK2FDU log, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

VK2FDU Manager
Garry Cottle VK2GAZ
96 Luttrell Street,
Richmond NSW 2753

Or . . .

Send your VK2FDU Call log via e-mail attachment, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

E-mail:   Garry Cottle VK2GAZ at:
vk2fdu.auz@gmail.com

Logs should be sent in one of the following formats: Excel, Word, or a Text file.

Additional Information

1. All dates of operation are according to UTC (GMT) date and time.

2. All contacts made using the VK2FDU Club Call are not usable for awards for your own call sign.

3. While many operators wish to complete and forward the QSL cards for their contacts, some operators may not be able to accomplish this. All first time contacts of the Club Call will receive a VK2FDU QSL QSL Card from the club, this QSL Card will be sent on behalf of the operator. FISTS Down Under does not want a difficulty with QSL'ing to prevent someone from being an operator of the Club Call.

4. All QSO's must be made on CW mode only. Any amateur band may be used.

5. When you are the control operator of the station using the FISTS Down Under Club Call, you must stay within the operating privileges of your own operator license class.

6. The FISTS number for the FISTS Down Under Club Call is 9610 and is the number you should give out when using the Club Call Sign, NOT your own FISTS number. The FISTS Down Under Club Call CC number is 1539.

7. Remember that you are a world-wide ambassador of the FISTS Down Under CW Club when you are operating the VK2FDU Club Call Sign. Fostering the use of CW and kindling friendships between Morse operators should be first and foremost while operating VK2FDU. Exchanging FISTS and CC numbers is lots of fun, but please remember that "number chasing" should NOT be the desired purpose.

8. There are many ham operators new to CW on the bands. VK2FDU operators are asked to please QRS and be as accommodating as possible to the new CW Ops. Many of these operators will be the lasting legacy for Morse Code and we should do everything we can to encourage and help them to remain in the CW fraternity.
